So you want to know about online jobs at home? I would’ve given my left arm for some of these opportunities 10 years ago.

I heard on the news recently how companies are having to get competitive to attract workers. Some places have started offering the perks our parents had like pensions, longer vacations, and things like that.

I’d say it’s been probably 20 years since these were a thing. The town that I grew up in was known for furniture manufacturing. These were hard, but good jobs with great benefits. About 2 decades ago, the majority of the factories shut down and moved production overseas.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of you out there had similar experiences where you live. The repercussions were devastating.

In 2008, I was living in Las Vegas, Nevada. I’m not sure if I’ve told this story before on The Candid Cashflow Podcast, but I worked as a Technical Writer for a large heavy equipment rental company based there.

The job, and more particularly my co-workers, changed my life in many positive ways. That job became a large part of my identity. I had no idea the company was suffering the detrimental effects of the housing bubble and that year, as you probably recall, the economy took a complete dump.

In December 2008, I was laid off. As a result, I came back home to North Carolina (a good thing), and it took me 18 months to find full-time work in the aftermath of all of that.

Fast forward to 2018…the opportunities to work online and earn money are seemingly endless. I’m going to cover a ton of opportunities in this episode, so stay tuned!

If you only remember one thing I say, remember this:

Having a successful online business is being able to make money online from multiple sources.

It’s very possible to make a lot of money from one source or method, but you never want to rely solely on one income stream. It would be a challenge to find any entrepreneur who makes all of their money from one income stream. It just doesn’t happen because it’s not feasible.

I do have a bit of a disclaimer here because not all of the jobs I’m going to talk about are online, but they do all involve the Internet.

All interaction with the companies you choose to work for is done via the Internet including everything from training to getting paid.

They all share one requirement: you need to be fairly Internet, computer, and smartphone savvy.

Driving Jobs in USA and Beyond

The work for these jobs is mostly done offline, but you’re connected via apps at all times. Obviously, you need a car, and some of these opportunities have certain requirements of you and your vehicle.

Amazon Flex

I actually just learned about this one today…sort of. I’ve noticed with my package deliveries recently that Amazon is fulfilling some orders using their own delivery service.

In Episode 12 of The Candid Cashflow Podcast, we discussed 5 Amazon business models anyone can start. Amazon Flex would make number 6!

As a driver for Amazon Flex, you can claim 2 or 4-hour blocks where you deliver packages in the area you choose. You pick up your packages at the warehouse, deliver them, return any you were unable to deliver to the warehouse, and that’s it.

You can expect to earn $18 to $25 per hour according to the website at Flex.Amazon.com.

If you are seriously considering this, be sure to check out some of the YouTube videos where drivers share their experiences. You can gain a lot of helpful tips this way because as far as I can tell, you’re on your own to figure out the tricks to making this a decent job.

You will be considered an Independent Contractor, so you’ll be responsible for your own taxes, fuel, vehicle, upkeep, etc. It seems like a great way to earn some extra cash in your spare time.

Uber and Lyft – Become Your Own Taxi Cab

In my area, where the larger cities are a couple hours away, I see a lot of people who drive for both of these companies. They both have similar requirements and pay scales.

There are really cool things about both. For example, a smartphone and 4-door vehicle are a couple of the requirements. If you don’t have one or both of these, they will help you get hooked up with them.

If you’re not 21 with at least 1 to 3 years of driving experience, don’t bother. Otherwise, this is a viable opportunity for a ton of people.

I know when I was in college, I didn’t have a ton of money, but I had a decent 4-door car. This would have been a great opportunity to spend my free time NOT in my dorm playing video games!

TaskRabbit – Odd Jobs Locally

If you have handy skills, you can add TaskRabbit to your side hustles for extra money. Listings include things like mounting, installation, moving, packing, furniture assembly, handyman, personal assistant, and more.

You simply sign up, install the app, and TaskRabbit will notify you about jobs nearby. You pick and choose the ones you want to do, confirm with your clients, do the work, and submit your invoices.

It’s as simple as that.

Honorable Mention – Postmates

Add another one to the list of driving jobs in the USA with Postmates. This one isn’t available everywhere yet, but it’s growing rapidly.

Postmates delivers food, drinks, and groceries or makes them available for pick-up.

You’ll have to check out their website to see if your area is eligible. If not, keep checking back because it seems like they are rapidly expanding.

If you enjoy driving jobs like Uber, then having a variety to choose from allows you to make money online from multiple sources. That’s what we mean by not putting all of your eggs in one basket. Keep your eyes and ears open and conduct regular online searches for new opportunities.

Content Creation

This includes everything from social media posts to videos to things like this podcast. Of course the key to make money online from multiple sources is to know how to monetize everything you do.

Affiliate Marketingaffiliate marketing

One great way to do that is through affiliate marketing or selling products and services from others.

If you’re completely new to affiliate marketing, join Amazon’s affiliate program at Associates.Amazon.com. It’s quick and easy to join. You can promote EVERYTHING from individual products to services like Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Prime, and more!

Amazon can fit in with almost anything you are creating online. You may have noticed some of your favorite YouTubers promoting the gear they use via the Amazon Associates affiliate program.

Aside from Amazon Associates, there are thousands of affiliate programs out there that allow you to earn commissions on everything from website hosting to cell phone service. Check out Episode 13 where we discussed how to find affiliate programs to promote.

Promoting Your Own Products

Affiliate marketing can be an extremely lucrative endeavor, but if you want to be even more boss than that, you can sell and promote your own products and services.

This is a popular route for many content creators as they get better at their craft. Once you learn to do something well through and through, you can always make money online from multiple sources by teaching what you know.

self publishingSelf-Publishing

I’m not going to spend too much time here. If you’re a regular listener of The Candid Cashflow Podcast, then you know I publish eBooks, paperbacks, and audiobooks. To learn more, check out Episode 5 when we discussed this topic in detail.
